A park across the street changes what a free hour can look like. So does a bridge that turns a drive into a walk. Around Bend, the connections between homes and outdoor places can be as interesting as the homes themselves.
In this neighborhood outing, David Keyte visits Lava Ridges and Pine Nursery in northeast Bend, then heads southeast to Hidden Hills and its connection to Alpenglow Park. The details are best discovered on foot.

Lava Ridges, through repeated visits
David knows Lava Ridges from open houses and conversations with neighbors. He remembers basketball games and people out on bikes during his visits. Those small observations give the beginning of the tour its familiarity: this is a place he has spent time in, rather than a name he has just found on a map.
The community pool is another feature shown in the episode. For a home search, ask about the association’s current access arrangements and costs. For a first look around, spend some time on the public streets and see how the neighborhood connects to the destinations that interest you.
Pine Nursery makes the outdoors part of the day
The next stop is Pine Nursery Park, with sports fields, pickleball, disc golf and a dog area among its attractions. That variety gives a household several different reasons to use the same park.
You can come with equipment and a plan, or simply walk the park paths. A short outing is enough to begin getting familiar with the setting. Check current facility schedules when organizing a game, and follow the posted leash rules outside the designated off-leash space.
At Hidden Hills, follow the bridge
In southeast Bend, the homes at Hidden Hills give David a different kind of detail to admire. He notices the variety in their designs before turning to the connection with Alpenglow Park.
The pedestrian bridge is the memorable part of the visit. It gives the route a visible shape: neighborhood on one side, park on the other. Rather than trying to imagine a connection from a listing description, you can walk it and see what the trip would feel like.
Alpenglow’s park page has the map and amenities for a longer visit. Pair the walk with some time in the park and give this part of town an afternoon of its own.
Notice what you would return for
When you tour neighborhoods, keep a few simple questions in mind. Which walk would you do again? How do the routes fit your errands and work? How much of the house and yard would you enjoy maintaining? Your answers may be quite different from someone else’s, and that is useful.
Our Bend neighborhood guide helps bring those impressions together with property details. For more park time, follow the Alpenglow, Drake and Sawyer outing, or choose another local visit from Check It Out.
