A playground morning, a downtown river walk and a picnic among the trees could fill three very different days in Bend. Alpenglow, Drake and Sawyer parks each give you a place to start.
David Keyte’s short park tour moves across town with that variety in mind. Some stops invite activity. Others make a good case for sitting still a little longer.

Alpenglow has a plan for the energetic part of the day
In southeast Bend, Alpenglow Park gives the tour an active beginning. David points out the playground, climbing features, splash pad and dog area. There are several ways to arrive with energy and put it to good use.
Choose the part of the park that suits the day. In splash-pad season, extra dry clothes may be a wise addition to the bag. At other times, the play spaces and paths give you reasons to return. The park district’s page has the map, facilities and seasonal information.
Drake belongs in the middle of a downtown wander
At Drake Park, Mirror Pond and the riverfront take over. It is a different mood from the first stop: green space beside downtown, room for a walk and a view worth pausing over.
Bring a coffee from town, find a place to sit or let the paths lead the next part of your visit. The shops and food stops nearby make it easy to build a little more around the park. A downtown errand can become an afternoon simply because you gave yourself time for the water.
Sawyer puts the trees back in the picture
The final stop heads northwest to Sawyer Park. The river and the wooded setting give the outing a quieter finish. David talks about picnics and time outside, the kinds of plans that leave room to decide how long to stay once you get there.
Look at the park’s current map before choosing a walk, follow the marked paths and respect posted river-access guidance. You can keep this visit as simple as a picnic and a look around. After a busy morning, that may be exactly the right amount of activity.
Choose the afternoon you want
Alpenglow suits a play-focused visit. Drake fits naturally into downtown. Sawyer offers another way to spend time beside the river. Pick one and let the day develop around it rather than hurrying to collect all three.
