Start with a slice downtown. Add garlic knots. By the time the conversation gets to a white pizza with ricotta and shiitake mushrooms, lunch has become an excellent excuse to explore Bend.

On this pizza outing, David Keyte visits Pizza Mondo, Pinky G’s and the wood-fired Blind Tiger cart. The three stops give the March 2024 film its range: a familiar downtown counter, a pizzeria with mountain-town roots and a final pie worth remembering.

Pizza Mondo makes a strong opening argument

A slice and garlic knots are a wonderfully uncomplicated lunch. At Pizza Mondo, they are the first things David wants to talk about. The downtown shop sits at 811 NW Wall Street, well placed for the sort of afternoon that involves a little browsing and an eventual walk back to the car.

Take a look at the day’s slices when you arrive, or choose a whole pie from the ordering menu when there is a group to feed. Garlic knots are a reasonable addition to either plan. Some lunch decisions are worth keeping simple.

A mountain-town connection at Pinky G’s

The next stop brings a different story. Pinky G’s has Jackson Hole roots, a connection David picks up on as he introduces its New York-style pizza. There is something fitting about a pizzeria finding its way between towns where an outdoor day often ends with a substantial appetite.

The Bend restaurant is at 719 SE 3rd Street. Browse the Bend menu before choosing a pie, and check with the restaurant for serving hours. Mondo can be your downtown lunch; Pinky G’s can have an evening of its own.

A white pizza worth remembering

At Blind Tiger’s wood-fired cart, the tour turns to a white pizza with truffle oil, ricotta, arugula and shiitake mushrooms. That combination gives the final stop its own identity. Long after a food outing, it is often one particular order that stays in the conversation.

This is a memory from the 2024 visit. Blind Tiger’s current service has not been confirmed; for a food-cart meal today, browse Silver Moon’s current lineup, which includes Bowen’s Pizza. The vendors have changed, but an afternoon built around a cart and a shared table is still an appealing idea.

Leave room for the rest of the afternoon

Choose a stop that suits your appetite and let the day grow from there. A downtown slice pairs naturally with a wander through the shops. A whole pie gives friends a reason to stay at the table. The useful part of a pizza tour is discovering somewhere you would gladly return.
